How the Semicolon Journey Works
A more personal way to understand where you are and what to do next.
The Semicolon Journey helps you move from uncertainty to a clearer path forward in three simple steps.
1. Start with a quick check-in
You’ll begin with a short screener that takes about five minutes. It is not a diagnosis, and it is not about putting a label on you. It is simply a way to better understand how things like mood, anxiety, sleep, stress, and other concerns may be affecting you right now.
From that first step, you’ll receive your Semicolon Number. Think of it as a personal baseline, a snapshot of where you are at this moment.
2. Go deeper where it matters
Based on your screener, we’ll recommend a small set of follow-up assessments chosen for your results. Most take between three and ten minutes. These help create a clearer picture of what may need the most attention, without sending you through things that do not apply to you.
3. Get support shaped around you
As your picture becomes clearer, your Journey opens up resources selected for your needs, including articles, videos, mini-courses, and helpful tools. Instead of a generic list, you get guidance built around what you’ve shared.
Private. Personal. At your pace.
No one is reviewing your answers behind the scenes, and there is no pressure to finish quickly. The Semicolon Journey is here to help you better understand where you are, find the right next steps, and move forward at a pace that feels manageable.
Project Semicolon is for anyone navigating life’s most difficult chapters. While we’re known for our work in mental health and suicide prevention, our mission extends far deeper—we exist for the struggles that often precede crisis moments. Whether you’re battling depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, eating disorders, or any of the invisible battles that can threaten your wellbeing, Project Semicolon stands with you. We’re for the person questioning their next sentence, for those rebuilding after loss, and for anyone seeking hope. The semicolon belongs to no demographic—it’s a universal symbol for every person who’s ever wondered if they could continue their story.
Absolutely not. The semicolon tattoo was never meant to be exclusive—it belongs to anyone who finds meaning in its message. Whether you’ve participated in Project Semicolon or simply resonate with what the semicolon represents, you have every right to wear it. The symbol is an open invitation to anyone facing a moment where they questioned continuing. It’s a declaration that your story isn’t over, and a quiet reminder to yourself and others that hope persists, even in darkness.
No. While mental health is at the heart of the semicolon movement, the symbol has evolved to represent all forms of struggle and resilience. Pink semicolons honor those battling cancer. Rainbow semicolons celebrate LGBTQ+ communities finding their voice and their place. The semicolon has become a universal mark of perseverance—a way to say “I’m still here” regardless of the battle. Whatever your story, there’s a semicolon that speaks to your journey.
Project Semicolon doesn’t provide direct crisis intervention. If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please reach out now:

No. There’s no “official” placement for the semicolon tattoo. Some choose visible placements as daily reminders or conversation starters. Others prefer more private locations as personal affirmations. The placement is entirely yours—wear your semicolon wherever feels most meaningful to you. What matters isn’t where the semicolon sits on your body, but what it represents in your heart.
